Having a hero that looks like you
I love books that celebrate diversity because I think that all children should be able to see themselves when they’re reading a story or imagine themselves at the centre of an adventure.
I was inspired to start writing stories for my daughters because it was so hard to find any books with leading mixed-race characters when they were younger, especially in chapter books. So, I created a girl, based on them, called Laurella Swift. Hopefully, young readers will be able to join her on her adventures very soon!
